The anniversary ‘60 years of the Reformed Church in Walchwil’ was a cheerful and extremely successful event!
The Reformed Church was decorated with colourful balloons and filled to capacity for the festive service. A jubilee couple who had married 60 years ago in the new church had travelled from far and wide and were grateful and happy to be there. The fact that our long-serving pastor Irène Schwyn was able to join in the celebrations despite her serious illness was moving and an impressive joy. In her sermon, Pastor Antje Gehrig called for good community building and reminded us of the foundations. The organ and the Zug Chamber Choir provided heavenly sounds. Cédric Schmid, President of the Zug-Menzingen-Walchwil District Church Council, recalled the interesting history of the church building and the Reformed Church in Walchwil in an entertaining way. Toni Rust from the Catholic parish, accompanied by his daughter, presented a statue of St Francis as a gift as a sign of spiritually open ecumenism.
The rain in the morning gave way to sunlight and made way for the large community to enjoy an aperitif and lively conversation on the panoramic terrace. An exciting presentation provided information about the creation and renovation of the architecturally sensational church building. Anni Sidler, an impressive Walchwil personality, also came to life. You could meet many people from the village as well as interesting guests. The Reformed Church has its place in Walchwil and is happy to be open and welcoming.
