On Saturday evening, FC Walchwil celebrated its first victory of the season with a convincing 4:1 (0:2) win against FC Perlen-Buchrain II in Buchrain.
On a rainy evening, a strong FCW team secured its first three points of the season. Supported by many players returning from military service and injury, the team was well-oiled today, and the Walchwil boys were able to build up a two-goal lead by half-time. Walchwil showed the necessary aerial dominance, especially from set pieces, and scored two goals from corner kicks.
In the second half, the focus was increasingly on defence. Perlen-Buchrain II played long balls into the visitors' half early on, but these were consistently cleared. Walchwil waited a long time for their chance, which came in the 66th minute. Nici Simoni curled a sweet corner kick around everyone to the far post, making it 3-0 and sealing the victory. Perlen-Buchrain II's 1-3 goal from a low free kick brought some excitement back into the game, but Walchwil was able to hold on to its lead, thanks in part to a spectacular save by Silvan Kamer on the goal line. Nici Simoni then sealed the deal with a counter-attack goal to make it 1-4, crowning his performance and that of FCW with a hat-trick. Dale Hager
