On Saturday, 8 November 2025, the traditional Lotto match took place at the Aesch restaurant. Thanks to donations from generous companies and individuals, an attractive prize table worth 9,200 Swiss francs was set up again this year.
The event began at 6 p.m. with evening service, followed by an invitation from the Walchwil Carnival Society to the lottery evening at 8 p.m.
‘14,’ the announcer with the little cards calls into the microphone. There are nods of approval here and disappointed head-shaking there. Those who have ‘14’ on their card reach for a semi-transparent plastic tile and cover the number with it. The pleasant tension briefly gives way to joy. People allow themselves a fleeting smile. Feelings of happiness take hold here in homeopathic doses – please, not too much euphoria at once.
Now there was four hours of high tension in the hall. Many were delighted with their winnings, others hoped for future lottery luck, but everyone enjoyed the cheerful atmosphere in the hall.
The Walchwil Carnival Society would like to take this opportunity to thank all sponsors, helpers and, of course, the lottery players for another thoroughly successful event. We look forward to next year! kh.

Just six months after Luca Zarrelli and Clara Cortés took over as tenants, the Pfaffenboden mountain restaurant is facing another change. The Walchwil Corporation has put the business up for rent. According to the Zuger Zeitung newspaper, the couple's offering did not meet the needs of hikers and cyclists. It is currently unclear who will succeed the outgoing tenants. kh.

On Thursday evening (7 August 2025), two traffic accidents occurred in Walchwil, each involving a motorcyclist. Both motorcyclists were seriously injured. One of the drivers involved also had to be taken to hospital.
The first accident occurred shortly after 8:15 p.m. on Vorderbergstrasse. For reasons that are not yet known, a head-on collision occurred between a motorcycle travelling uphill and a car travelling downhill. The 34-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured. After receiving initial medical treatment from the emergency services, he was taken to hospital. The 45-year-old car driver was also taken to hospital for a check-up with minor injuries.
During the rescue operation, Vorderbergstrasse had to be closed for around an hour in the area of the accident site. Zug Police

Shortly after 8:45 p.m., a second traffic accident involving a motorcycle occurred on Artherstrasse. A 20-year-old motorcyclist was travelling from Arth towards Walchwil. In a left-hand bend, he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road to the right and crashed to the ground. The motorcycle then skidded across the entire road and collided with a wall on the left-hand side. The 20-year-old driver who caused the accident had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries. The event concluded with the group Helga on Fire. The entire Walchwil municipal council and several Zug politicians were also present. The event was excellently organised under the direction of Jürg Portmann. Catering stands and the local Riviera restaurant ensured that nobody had to go home hungry. kh.

A beautiful summer evening and a marvellous backdrop in the Rägeten awaited the 23 men's team members at this year's stroll.
A quick tidy up of the barn, a few table sets set up, and the traditional party could begin... The 10 kilos of roast pork neck are once again expertly cooked on the barbecue by our club butcher Wisel Rust. The risotto is no less lovingly and freshly prepared by Roland Imhof, our men's team aspirant. Our three members with a nine at the top of their year, Paul Ehrler, Fritz Zeindler and Kari Müller, were specially honoured during the party.
Patrick Möckli, who is celebrating his 60th birthday this year, sponsored the entire meal and a few bottles of champagne. So we really popped the corks, and we thank the noble donor!
The summer holidays have now begun and the men's gymnastics team has been suspended for four weeks. However, this means that we will be keeping fit with regular hiking and tennis on the Lienisberg. True to the motto ‘Join in and stay fit!’ Guido Pirovino

The Walchwil International Men’s Club hosted an evening of sophisticated palate testing at the Spritzenhaus KunsCHt Gallery, where members and guests blind-tasted and compared seven pairs of wines from Spain and Italy.
Guided by local resident and award-winning sommelier Josef Pargfrieder, attendees explored the nuances of each carefully selected vintage without knowing the labels, varietals, or prices. The unique format encouraged unbiased appreciation and lively discussion as participants voted on their preferences within each pair.

On Tuesday evening, 30 cyclists met for the annual presentation of the Köbi challenge cup.
Dear BCW family, there are people who are simply always there. Not loud, not pushy – but as reliable as Swiss clockwork. If someone has to spontaneously take over a tour – they are there. If feedback is needed for the anniversary celebration – he already has a list ready. He is the one who knows the way on snowshoe tours, reconnoitres and leads the Rigi tour and always has a smile on his face. His humour is infectious, his knowledge of the local history is impressive and his positive charisma motivates us all. He is a real team player who even makes his own bike available if someone runs out of steam.
In short, he is a role model for us all. That is why we are awarding the Köbi Challenge Cup 2024 to our esteemed colleague Hans ‘Hausi’ Rust! Anders Borgen

The municipal council is pleased that, thanks to discipline and serious planning, the expenditure approved in the budget could be adhered to very well. The revision of the tax law and high tax income, on the other hand, led to a significantly better result than budgeted.
The municipal council has taken note of the 2024 financial statements. With income of CHF 35.8 million and expenses of CHF 24.6 million, the 2024 income statement shows an income surplus of CHF 11.2 million. An income surplus of CHF 1.2 million was budgeted.
Ordinary tax income exceeded the budget by CHF 7.7 million. This is mainly due to additional income from income tax on natural persons from previous years (+CHF 3.5 million) and property gains tax (+CHF 1.3 million).
In addition, with the adoption of the eighth tax law revision, the canton has committed to making a solidarity contribution of CHF 1.5 million per year to the municipality of Walchwil from 2024 to 2027. This amount could not yet be included in the 2024 budget as the tax law revision was not yet legally binding.
Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
Total expenses were around CHF 0.8 million lower than budgeted. Expenses were below budget almost everywhere. The calculated contribution to the Zug financial equalisation scheme (ZFA) resulted in higher costs due to higher tax income than budgeted. On the other hand, the budgeted contribution of CHF 1.4 million to the National Fiscal Equalisation (NFA) was cancelled, also as a result of the eighth revision of the Tax Act.
Net investments in 2024 totalled CHF 2.7 million, compared to the budgeted total of CHF 2.2 million. They are higher than budgeted because more was invested in drainage and road renovations.
The net assets for 2024 amount to CHF 30,583,437, which corresponds to per capita assets of CHF 7,657. Thanks to the good result in 2024, the per capita assets of the previous year (CHF 5,252) have increased further. The number of inhabitants fell from 4,010 to 3,994.
The result of the 2024 income statement is as follows

At the municipal assembly on 25 June 2025, the municipal council will propose using the surplus income of around CHF 11.2 million to allocate CHF 5.0 million to the pre-financing of depreciation for the school extension project. On the other hand, the remaining CHF 6.2 million is to be allocated to other equity.
After these allocations, the remaining equity will now total around CHF 46.0 million.

Following disagreements, the current tenant is leaving the Engel restaurant.
The “Engel” restaurant in Walchwil has not been serving guests since the beginning of December last year. Now tenant Kesang Soghatsang is throwing in the towel – even though the lease runs until 2029. The reason for the premature end at the Engel is a spat between Soghatsang and the owner of the property.
As the “Zuger Zeitung” reported, the lunch table was at the center of the discussions. Soghatsang had started to close the restaurant at lunchtime and had decided to focus exclusively on Asian cuisine in the high-price segment from 2022. He explained his decision by adapting to the changing needs of the clientele. This now increasingly consists of expats.
However, the owner of the property has a different vision for the Engel, according to the article. They want to re-establish the restaurant as a meeting place for the village population – and the lunch table is essential for this. The population also wants more home-style cooking.
In the meantime, the restaurant will remain closed until further notice. The search for a successor is ongoing – the owner does not want to hold on to the contract, which is theoretically still valid. According to Soghatsang, there are already four people interested in running the restaurant. (kh)

The Walchwil International Mens Club enjoyed an evening of local culture as part of their February meeting last night.

Heidi presented her artwork to the club, answering a number of questions as well as confirming that nature is indeed her favourite subject matter.
Thanks also go to Martin and Caroline from the Kulturalkommission for supporting such a wonderful evening. Neil Macleod

The canton of Zug warns of a wolf.
On Monday morning, the canton of Zug announced a possible wolf sighting in Walchwil. It calls on local farmers to consider herd protection measures. The canton of Zug informs us by text message that a wolf may have been spotted in Walchwil. It is said to be in the Grossmattstollen and Brandflue area. The canton sends a text message to farmers who keep animals in the area, asking them to consider herd protection measures.
The construction work for the new Seefeld bridge in Walchwil is progressing. The old bridge and the Lido pedestrian bridge will be dismantled during the night of 20/21 January 2025. This will require a night-time closure of Artherstrasse in the Seefeld area.
In order to rebuild the Seefeld bridge, the old bridge must be demolished beforehand. For space reasons, the dismantling work can only be carried out by closing the road at night. For this reason, the Seefeld section of Artherstrasse and Seefeldquai will be completely closed to motorised traffic from 10 pm on Monday, 20 January 2025 until 5 am on Tuesday, 21 January 2025. Access to the affected properties in Seefeld is not guaranteed during this time. A diversion via Seefeldquai will be signposted for pedestrians and cyclists.
Large-scale bypass
During the closure, Artherstrasse between Zug and Arth will be closed to traffic. Access is possible from Zug and Arth as far as the Seefeld section. The construction site can be bypassed on a large scale via Ägeri-Sattel or via the national road via Rotkreuz-Arth. A diversion is signposted. The affected bus stops ‘Engel’, ‘Lido’ and ‘St. Adrian’ on route 605 of the Zuger Verkehrsbetriebe will not be served during this time. The service will turn round at Walchwil station.
If the dismantling work cannot be carried out on this night due to bad weather or other problems, the work will be postponed by 24 hours to the night of 21 January to 22 January 2025.
The 2024 Advent brunch attracted 52 senior citizens from the community, who were looking forward to a cosy and festive atmosphere.
‘Frohes Alter’ offered guests a variety of culinary delights. From savoury dishes to sweet treats, there was something for every taste. The excellent catering by Fyrabigmetzg left nothing to be desired. Eva and Sepp Traxler's Derniére and their many good angels from the Walchwil women's community ensured that everything ran smoothly and that the guests were warmly entertained. The visitors not only enjoyed the delicious food, but also the opportunity to socialise with other members of the community and celebrate the pre-Christmas season together.
Once again, many thanks to Eva and Sepp Traxler for their tireless commitment. (kh)

I am a trained craftsman with over 20 years of professional experience as a floor layer and in interior decoration. My main job is now as a specialist consultant and salesman in the trade, but I would still like to do some handicraft work myself from time to time and have therefore set up this little project here.
I would like to help you to realise smaller projects particularly cost-effectively. After all, you don't always need several tradesmen to renovate a single room or assemble a few small items, for example.
Do you have a dream project that you would like to realise? Don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
On Saturday, 9 November 2024, the traditional Heimatabig of the 92-year-old yodelling club Walchwil took place in the well-filled community hall. Sarah Müller hosted the evening, which was all about her homeland, with plenty of wit and humour. With her relaxed, humorous manner, she showed the visitors that they had not taken the time to attend the Heimatabig in vain. Various performances such as alphorn blowers, traditional dancing and yodelling transformed the community hall into a festival hut.
During the interval, raffle tickets were sold. Once again this year, attractive prizes awaited the lucky winners.
Food and drink were provided by the Walchwil respiratory service in collaboration with Fyrabig-Metzg Arth

Quality meat - from natural feeding. Bio Natura-Beef is meat from 10-month-old calves from suckler cow husbandry. We market our meat regionally. This also means that our butchers Theiler in Allenwinden (sanktmeinradhof.ch) and Uelihof in Ebikon (uelihof.ch) are only a few kilometres away. This also keeps the transport distance for the animals as short as possible. After slaughter, the meat is stored on the bone for 10 days to mature. This makes the meat tender and juicy. Then it is portioned, vacuum-packed and labelled. It is ready packed and can be collected from our farm.
We sell 10 kg mixing packages. One package contains:
– Filet oder Huft
– Entrecote
– Hohrücken
– Plätzli à la minute
– Saftplätzli
– Braten
– Ragout
– Geschnetzeltes
– Hackfleisch
– Siedfleisch

Lake Zug invites you to move freely across the wide surface of the water. Under your own steam or with the help of the elements, carried by a board or a boat. At the same time, bodies of water are important habitats for birds, fish and other creatures. In many places, it is possible for people and nature to coexist.

Keep your distance from the reeds
Wherever possible 100 metres. The reeds serve as a breeding and hiding place for many birds.
Keep your distance from gravel islands and sandbanks
If possible, 100 metres or more. These areas are important resting and breeding sites as well as food sources for many birds.
Do not drive along stretches of water where birds congregate
In autumn and winter, disturbance is possible from a distance of 1 km.
Respect protected areas
Always stay outside the marked boundaries, some of which are labelled with yellow buoys or signs and marked on maps.

This summer, many people will once again be out and about on Lake Zug. For some years now, stand-up paddling (SUP) has been particularly popular. However, many stand-up paddlers do not realise that their activity can disturb wildlife.
Lake Zug is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, fish and dragonflies. Birds raise their young in or on the reeds, while juvenile fish and dragonfly larvae are mainly found in shallow water zones.
With the ‘On the water with consideration’ campaign, the ‘Nature and Leisure’ association, together with the canton of Zug and a coalition of sports, leisure and nature conservation organisations as well as companies from the outdoor and tourism industry, is raising awareness of wildlife-friendly water sports. The aim is to show recreationists and sportsmen and women how they can enjoy water sports in an environmentally friendly way.
