Lienisberg in Walchwil once again proved itself to be a true mecca for football fans. Nestled in the idyllic countryside and buzzing with a fantastic tournament atmosphere, the grounds became the venue for the 41st Walchwil Grümpel Tournament on Saturday (20 June 2026). Where tranquillity and nature usually reign supreme, on this day it was fighting spirit, team spirit and a passion for the beautiful game that took centre stage.
Despite the sweltering heat, the teams gave their all. With plenty of heart and soul, sporting ambition and a healthy dose of fair play, ten teams in the mixed category and eight teams in the open category threw themselves into the tournament. On the pitch, every ball was fought for, every metre was battled for and every goal was celebrated.
The numerous spectators also got their money’s worth. Thrilling matches, surprising twists and impressive moves provided top-class entertainment throughout the day. The fair play shown by all the teams was particularly striking. Despite their great effort and desire for sporting success, the matches were played in a respectful and
Of course, there was no shortage of those stories that really bring any football tournament to life. Whenever the ball failed to find the back of the net, the goal frame inevitably became the focus of criticism. To the strikers, it often seemed like the eye of a needle; to the goalkeepers, however, like the door of a barn. Amidst laughter, technical banter and friendly jibes, those charming episodes emerged that will be recounted long after the final whistle and give an amateur tournament its unmistakable character.
Thanks to the exemplary organisation, the tournament also went off peacefully and without a hitch. Once again, the Lienisberg became the vibrant heart of the Walchwil football family – a place where friendships are nurtured, emotions shared and memories created that linger long after the final whistle.
The 41st Walchwil Grümpel Tournament impressively demonstrated why this event has held a firm place in village life and in the hearts of many football enthusiasts for decades. kh.
