A major event and community project is coming to Walchwil: over 100 participants from several generations will perform the rousing music of Peter Schindler’s composition ‘New Carmina Burana’ (‘Perpetuum mobile’) on 23th and 24th January, 2027 in the community hall (Gemeindesaal) in Walchwil for its Swiss premiere.
In 2021, Peter Schindler (*1960) set medieval texts from the famous song and drama collection ‘Codex Buranus’ from Benediktbeuren Abbey to music in his work. “It is about money, deceit, hypocrisy, love, death, addiction, longing, play, celebration, the heart and pain. All the sufferings and joys of everyday life are described with a blend of tender and coarse sentiment and lead to a single thought: nothing has changed in the great human themes over the last few centuries” (Peter Schindler).
Two outstanding young soloists, the Walchwil Church Choir, the Zug Chamber Choir, the Camerata Walchwil and TanzAtelierZug will bring this new work for soprano and baritone soloists, mixed choir, jazz quartet, string ensemble and dance to life on stage. The musical direction is in the hands of Johannes Meister and Peter Werlen.
And now the highlight: Walchwil’s clubs, residents and other interested persons are warmly invited to take part in this magnificent cultural and community-building project for the village of Walchwil and the Zug region!
